SUMMARY:Communicate\, Collaborate and Campaign: A #SayaJugaAnakMalaysia Workshop
DESCRIPTION:On the 21st and 22nd of February\, Family Frontiers organised its first ever “Collaborate\, Communicate and Campaign: A #SayaJugaAnakMalaysia Workshop”!  \nRecognising the need for stronger communication strategies among civil society organizations in Malaysia\, the workshop brought together over 30 participants from across the country for two days of learning and collaboration at the International Youth Centre\, Cheras. \nIn addition to enhancing advocacy skills\, the workshop aimed to raise awareness about Malaysia’s gender-discriminatory citizenship laws—particularly in light of the recently passed Constitutional Amendment Bill 2024\, which introduced significant changes to citizenship provisions. Among these was the long-awaited amendment granting Malaysian women the right to confer citizenship automatically to their overseas-born children. \nThe main sessions of the workshop aimed to equip participants with practical skills and knowledge on narrative building\, social media\, news media\, communications and digital advocacy. \nWe believe this workshop was a meaningful step in empowering CSOs and activists to leverage communications and media in their advocacy while fostering a strong\, supportive network of citizenship rights advocates. \nWe extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this workshop a success—Qistina\, our interpreter; Elroi\, Sze Ning\, and Columban for photography and videography; and Corina for rapporteuring throughout the sessions. \nMost importantly\, we thank all the participants for joining us\, marking the beginning of a growing network dedicated to citizenship rights. \nFamily Frontiers looks forward to expanding this workshop series to other regions in Malaysia and exploring new topics to further strengthen the local citizenship advocacy movement. \nWatch the event recap video here.
