Family Frontiers organised a gathering in support and solidarity of Malaysian women’s equal citizenship rights in line with Malaysia’s National Day. The event that took place in Taman Jaya, Petaling Jaya saw roughly 80 participants, including Members of Parliament and Senators across the political divide, civil society organisations, persons of influence and members of the public. Present at the event were policymakers from across the political divide, including the chief of the women’s wing of a political party part of the present ruling coalition.
In attendance were impacted Malaysian families, including non-citizen children born to Malaysian women who donned traditional outfits. Impacted Malaysian mothers also shared their lived realities. The event ended with second-generation impacted children singing their hearts out to the song ‘Saya Anak Malaysia’, as their struggles to be recognised as citizens in their mothers’ homeland continue.
