At a panel discussion titled “Tackling Statelessness: The Dilemma of Citizenship in Malaysia,” Family Frontiers successfully garnered 54 attendees at Kolej Yayasan UEM. Notably, the majority of these participants, totaling 50 youth, were from the youth category. This significant turnout highlights the interest and concern among young people regarding the pressing issue of statelessness. Our Research & Policy coordinator, Patricia, had the opportunity to speak on this distinguished panel, which also featured other prominent figures including Dr. Ong Kian Ming, Dr. Tamara Jean, and Dr. Rodzianna Mohammad Razali. During her segment, Patricia focused on the critical issue of how Malaysian mothers are unable to confer citizenship to their children born overseas. She elaborated on the implications of this policy, highlighting the challenges faced by affected families and the broader impact on society. Her insights contributed to a robust and enlightening discussion on a topic that is both timely and significant for many in Malaysia.
