PERMANENT RESIDENCE #
Any foreign national intending to enter and reside in Malaysia as a permanent resident may apply for an Entry Permit in accordance with Section 10 of Immigration Act and Regulation 4 of Immigration Regulations 1963. An Entry Permit is issued in the form of document.
ELIGIBILITY #
- Has been issued with a Long Term Visit Pass and stayed continuously in Malaysia for a period of 5 years.
- For children of a Malaysian citizen below the age of 6, their parents must be the sponsor.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS #
- Entry Permit Application Form (IMM 4.)
- Form IMM 270.
- Passport Photo with blue background
- Applicant’s Birth Certificate: photocopy and original for verification purpose.
- Applicant’s Passport: photocopy and original for verification purpose.
- Parent’s MYKAD: photocopy and original for verification purpose.
- Parent’s Malaysian Marriage Certificate: photocopy and original for verification purpose.
- Parent’s Overseas Marriage Certificate (for those who registered their marriage overseas): both original and photocopy.
- 1 Malaysian sponsor’s (parent in the case of children) passport-size photo
- Security Bond Receipt
- Proof of Residence: bring either your water or electricity bill to prove your residence address
- Sponsor’s (Parent) Proof of income: payslip
- Sponsor’s (Parent) Proof of Employment: Request company HR to issue an employment confirmation letter to prove his employment.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS #
- For applications from Peninsular Malaysia, the Entry Permit document will be issued at the Malaysian Immigration Headquarters, Putrajaya while for Sabah and Sarawak, the document will be issued at the relevant State Immigration Office.
- The applicant and sponsor must be present together at the Immigration counter during the process of submitting the Entry Permit document.
- The fixed payment rate for each issue of Entry Permit is RM120.00.
ENTRY PERMIT APPLICATION APPEAL #
The consideration and decision of the Entry Permit application is made by the Director General of Immigration Malaysia in accordance with the act and regulations in force.
For applications that have been rejected, appeals can be submitted to YAB Minister of Home Affairs (MDN) through the Chief Secretary at the address:

RESIDENCE PASS #
Residence Pass is issued to any foreign national who falls under any category specified under Regulation 16A, Immigration Regulations 1963
RESIDENCE PASS CATEGORIES #
Category 3 – A person ties with a Malaysia Citizen
- Biological child / step-child / adopted child to a citizen aged 18 & below.
Category 4 – A person with family ties with a Permanent Resident of Malaysia
- Biological child to a Permanent Resident of Malaysia
CONDITIONS TO APPLY A RESIDENT PASS (OTHER CATEGORIES) #
- The applicant must have a valid travel document or passport with a validity at least 6 months.
- The applicant has been staying in Malaysia on a valid long term pass.
- For Category 3, the applicant must hold a valid long-term pass and has resided in Malaysia at least 3 years.
- For Category 4, the applicant must hold a valid long-term pass and has resided in Malaysia at least 5 years.
- The application must be sponsored by a Malaysian aged 21 years and above.
- For Category 3 & Category 4, application may be submitted to the nearest Immigration office or the Immigration Headquarter located at Putrajaya or via online https://eservices.imi.gov.my/myimms/myPR .
- All photocopied documents issued by a foreign country MUST be certified by the corresponding foreign missions in Malaysia. [It can be certified by the Embassy of the applicant’s home country in Malaysia]
- Applications in West Malaysia must be sponsored by a Malaysia citizen.
- Applications in Sabah and Sarawak must be sponsored by a Malaysian citizen of Sabah or Sarawak origin.
- Both sponsor and applicant MUST be present during the submission of documents at the Immigration office.
CHECKLIST OF DOCUMENTS #
Category 3 – Biological child / step-child / adopted child to a citizen aged 18 & below.
- Form IMM 16a.
- Photocopy of applicant’s passport (new and old)
- 2 copies of passport size photos
- 2 photocopies of the sponsor’s identity card
- Photocopy of identification documents of parents / step-parents / adopted parents.
- Photocopy of birth certificate / adoption certificate / court order
- Photocopy of marriage certificate of parents / step-parents / adopted parents.
Category 4 – Biological Child to a Permanent Resident aged 18 and below
- Form IMM 16a.
- Photocopy of applicant’s new and old passport
- 2 copies passport size photos
- Photocopy of birth certificate of the applicant.
- Photocopy of marriage certificate of parents.
- Photocopy of identity card (MyPR) of parents.
- Photocopy of Entry Permit of parents.
- Photocopy of parent’s passport.
- 2 photocopies of the sponsor’s identity card
COST FOR A RESIDENCE PASS #
- Residence Pass costs RM500.00 for 5 years.
- Multiple Entry Visa by country.
TIME REQUIRED FOR THE APPLICATION TO BE APPROVED #
- Immigration officers said it would take up to 90 days.
- However, with Malaysia currently in lock down, the time estimated might be longer.
